Day 2 - Snaefelnes Peninsula
On the scenic way to the Snaefelnes Peninsula, we will stop by the beautiful little town Borgarnes. The journey to this place is absolutely phenomenal - we will drive through beautiful fjords and scenic mountains. Borgarnes was one of the first places where Norwegian vikings settled when they arrived in Iceland.
Along the coast, we will encounter a lively seal colony by the sandy beach – Ytri-Tunga. The location of the most famous and magical church in Iceland, located where an old village was once thriving here – Hraunhofn or ‘the harbour of lava’.

From here we will continue to the southern tip of the peninsula and visit the town of Arnarstapi. The village is located in the area of the cliffs that spill into the Atlantic Ocean along the coastline, where there are nesting colonies of seabirds and wonderful volcanic rock formations, among them the famous arch - the Helner Arch, which we will visit.
Later we will reach the black beach (Djúpalónssandu) lined with pebbles with a special story from the last century with a British ship wrecked on its shores. Legend has it that the tradition of lifting rocks of different sizes and weights was used to test the strength of the local fishermen and their ability to participate in fishing activities.
We will visit the volcano (Saxholl Crater) left behind many signs such as lava fields that shaped the environment. On our way we will stop for a photo and observation of Mount Kirkeople rising to a height of 463 meters. This is one of the most spectacular places in Iceland (some say the most beautiful mountain in the country).
